How To Measure Horns

NOTE: All measurements for Horn Showcase entries should be measured to the 1/16 of an inch.

  1. Tip-to-Tip (TTT): The distance between the outside tips of the horns will be measured.
  2. Total Horn (TH): The distance from the tip of one horn down along the outside of the horn, then the backside of the horn while keeping contact with the skull as it runs the backside of poll and up the other horn in the same manner to the tip.
  3. Composite Measurement (COMP): Composite measurement consists of adding TTT and TH measurements. This total number of both measurements will give you the composite measurement. Although the video included instructions on measuring the horn bases and including those figures, beginning with the 2021 Horn Showcase, the board voted to NOT include base measurements in the composite totals.
  4. Twist Measurement: The twist horn measurement will start at one horn tip following the line of the horn as it follows the twist in the horn (wrapping around horn), across the top or backside of the poll and up the other horn in the same method. *No Tip-to-Tip or bases in this measurement*
