Last December's back-to-back blizzards left people in Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas stranded in their homes, unable to feed their cattle or reach emergency services.
“This blizzard really emphasized how critical personal preparedness is,” says Hans Kellam, director of the Colorado Division of Emergency Management (CDEM). “We can’t stress enough the importance of listening to severe weather warnings, staying home when roads can’t be safely traveled and preparing with emergency supplies ahead of time.” Read more on the American Cowman Web site.

Individuals thinking about returning to the family farm and ranch are encouraged to attend a two-session program at the Radisson Fossil Creek in Fort Worth.
"Planning the Return to the Farm/Ranch," a program offered by Texas Cooperative Extension, will be held in two sessions: Jan. 18-19 and Feb. 22-23.
The program helps inform individuals on the issues and alternatives before making a commitment to returning to the family business, said Dr. Danny Klinefelter, Extension economist.
Planning for the future is key for a successful business, Klinefelter said. The program can benefit a family whose child is planning to return to the farm or ranch within one or two years. Read more on the AgNews Web site.
