National Cattlemen’s Beef Association To Launch Weekly TV Show

On Tuesday, February 6, 2007, be sure to tune your televisions to rural America’s favorite channel, RFD-TV, for the premier of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Cattlemen to Cattlemen at 8:30 pm eastern standard time. Rebroadcasts will air on Wednesdays at 4:30 am and 12:30 pm, and Saturday’s at 10 am. On the first episode USDA Secretary Mike Johanns will be the featured guest as well as current market information from Cattle-Fax. On the February 13, 2007, broadcast, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson will be the featured guest. Rising Corn Prices Might Hurt Cattle Industry

The increased demand for ethanol has reached the feedlot; the doubled price of corn, which is used in the animal feed, has cut sharply into profits of cattle producers. Cattle Rustling Charges Corral Two in Colorado

After bringing down cattle from high-country pastures, a San Miguel County rancher noticed a few head missing. Authorities traced some to Kansas and a Montrose County pasture. Read more on the Salt Lake Tribune Web site.

New Vaccine Being Developed in California

Trying to combat a disease that has plagued California cattle producers for years, the California Cattlemen’s Association’s (CCA) Livestock Memorial Research Fund (LMRF) has approved a contribution of $50,000 to the University of California to help develop a vaccine to protect cattle from Epizootic Bovine Abortion (EBA). EBA accounts for approximately 45,000 to 90,000 lost calves each year. Read more about this on the Red Bluff Daily News Web site.
